Creating a portfolio is a fascinating, deeply personal process.  A successful portfolio will invite the viewer to linger, and house your work in a way that enhances it through physical context.   If your work calls for a particular look or feel that is not captured by an off-the-shelf portfolio, or if you want to take the presentation of your work to the next level aesthetically, you may be drawn to building your own portfolio or lookbook.

The Open Portfolio is a two-session class meant to guide you through the process of creating your own custom portfolio.  The first session will be an open, round-table discussion and planning session; bring your content, your ideas, swatches, tools, and anything you want to incorporate into the design or overall concept.  We will look at examples of portfolios already made for distinct purposes, and each student will leave with a plan for the creation of their unique portfolio.  In the second, longer session, we will bring our ideas into being; materials will be prepped between sessions to allow each student to fully execute the creation of their custom portfolio by the end of the second session. Students will have the choice of using covering materials provided by the instructor or providing their own.

This class is geared towards anyone interested in making a portfolio or lookbook that truly suits his or her needs.  Some experience with or knowledge of bookbinding techniques will be helpful, but is not required. Some experience with cutting and folding paper would also be helpful, but is not required.
