Tabletop Platen Press

Learn to print on Tabletop Platen Press! Far smaller than a cylinder press, these clamshell-style presses are great for printing cards or small invitations. Unlike cylinder presses, they are capable of printing on oddly shaped papers as well as those of unusual thickness, such as coasters.

This two day workshop will fun from 9:30am to 5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Topics covered include typesetting, locking up the chase, handling registration, and printing edition work. Completion of this workshop qualifies you to rent Tabletop Presses at San Francisco Center for the Book.

The cost of this two day workshop is $350. Click here for more information and registration.

The Asteroid Party!

The Aesthetic Union presents a release party for THE ASTEROID PROJECT, a concept album by May Oskan with companion art book, designed and printed by Ladybones!

You may know May Oskan as the mild-mannered project manager of The Aesthetic Union -- but this spring May is taking off her glasses and releasing (at long last) her magnum opus of conceptual glam rock and collaborative storytelling. Join us to celebrate at The Aesthetic Union with live music, print reverie, and refreshments. Copies will be available for sale, and the shop will be open.

Live music provided by electric and eclectic jazz trio Acme Anvil Drop, featuring Asteroid collaborator Adam Lipsky.
Opening set by dreamy psych-pop outfit Real Real Talk, featuring Asteroid collaborator Ashley Clayton.

THE ASTEROID PROJECT is a studio concept album and companion art book featuring works by 10 illustrators from across the United States. The limited edition features a hand screenprinted cover by Night Diver Press and book design by us at Ladybones Print Shop. The album was recorded in Oakland with producer Dave Rice and features instrumental and experimental talents from both coasts.
